Testimonials
for E-Collar Training
Since 2005, I have successfully trained
hundreds of dogs on e-collar. For more information on this method of
training, and to see the collars in action, visit
www.sitmeanssit.com.
One thing that the majority of e-collar trained dogs have in
common is the pure excitement they show when the collar comes out. They
quickly associate the collar to mean off leash freedom and their quality
of life is improved due to how much more often they are able to
experience this freedom. Here are just a few testimonials from happy
dogs and their owners:
Ozzy the Jack Russell Terrier and Kali
the Pit Bull type
Tammy is the Canadian Dog
Whisperer! We adopted our Jack Russell Terrier from the Sudbury Animal
Shelter and he was insane. Ozzy never used to be an off-leash dog. When
we talked to Tammy about this she suggested E-collar training, and
trusting her ability completely we went ahead with it. Before E-collar,
we would often leave Ozzy behind when we would go to the beach, when we
went camping, or when we would go for walks in the bush because his
leash stopped him from really enjoying those experiences with us. Now
Ozzy can be off-leash in any situation which has allowed him to live a
fully active life alongside his owners! I never would have imagined that
this crazy little pup would one day become a certified St. John’s
Ambulance Therapy Dog. Whenever someone says “what an obedient Jack
Russell” or “I can’t believe your Jack is a therapy dog, mine is
bouncing of f the walls” or even “that can’t be a Jack Russell Terrier”
– I NEVER hesitate the tell them about the wonderful training he
received with Skiplyn Kennels and about just how great Tammy is at what
she does.
About a year after we
adopted Ozzy, we adopted another dog, but this time one with aggression
issues. Our new dog Kali is dog aggressive. We immediately enrolled her
into obedience and trained her on E-collar as well. We have only had
Kali for 6 months and she is already making leaps and bounds in her
training. Tammy always takes extra time with her and has helped me learn
about how to get Kali’s aggression under control.
I never would have imagined
that a tiny girl like me would be able to walk a Jack Russell Terrier
and a 60 pound bully breed holding both their leashes in one hand and
having them heel perfectly at my side. I couldn’t be happier – and
neither could my dogs!

Wicket the Springer Spaniel
I have a springer spaniel named
Wicket. Wicket is a vibrant dog with lots of energy and a constant
wagging tail. The one very unfortunate thing about Wicket was not being
able to let him run freely to allow him to use up some of his bottled up
energy. Wicket knew the command "Come" and would come when I had his
undivided attention. But once Wicket was off leash, he had so much to
explore that his curious mind would shut off any attention to me or
anyone surrounding him. We could call and call and he would never come.
I had begun to contemplate an e-collar as suggested to me by Tammy, but
initially shot down the idea. II worried about "zapping" my
dog. However, seeing other dogs running so freely and almost loosing
Wicket when a guest in my house left the door open a fraction of a
minute too long got me to thinking about that e-collar. We even went as
far as to test the e-collar on the palms of our hands. We discovered
that there is more than one setting on the collar and that the collar
was simply used to get the dogs attention and not to inflict pain on
him. There was absolutely no pain involved with this collar.
After many hours spent on the phone with Tammy answering my every
concern regarding the e-collar and, I decided to e-collar Wicket.
Two weeks after having Tammy train Wicket, my husband and I with the
e-collar, Wicket was out running free of leashes or any fenced in
yards. We can run him out in the bush, park, he can even go swimming,
which we now have discovered is his new favorite thing to do. Who knew
a dog can swim and wag his tail at the same time.
Emzie the
Doberman
We adopted our now
3-1/2 year old Doberman (Ezmie) when she was 1. She had many behavioural
issues – barking in the car, chasing quads, snow machines, vehicles,
chasing people and barking at them, she did not heel and was not social
with other animals.
We asked other dog
owners about training and the name we heard most frequently was Tammy of
Skiplyn Kennels and that’s where the relationship began. We started off
attending Tammy’s beginner training (we heard she was great…and she is)
and after three classes Ezmie was much improved. She became more social
and Tammy taught us how to behave with Ezmie. We learned that our
behaviour and reactions were a big part of Ezmie’s behaviour.
While walking Ezmie
one day Ezmie bolted and chased a plow truck. The truck almost hit her
and I called Tammy to help us. Tammy recommended an e-collar. We were
apprehensive because we did not want to do anything that might hurt her
but Tammy explained it was a training tool and would not harm her. Tammy
would NOT sell us an e-collar unless we attended training with her and
Ezmie. We were desperate for Ezmie to stop chasing vehicles so we
attended training and purchased a collar. That was almost two years ago
and we’d do it again in a heart beat. It’s been a valuable training tool
and not harmful to Ezmie because Tammy taught us how to use it
properly. We would not recommend the use of an e-collar without proper
training.
Tammy is an awesome
trainer. Not only does Ezmie love her but we appreciate and respect all
that she does. Tammy is an animal advocate and her passion runs deep.
Tammy’s honesty and integrity makes her a champion in our books.
We truly appreciate
everything you’ve done for us Tammy. We are better parents to Ezmie
thanks to you.
Thanks a million.
K.C the Border Collie
Mix
We adopted out dog,
K.C., just days after our old dog, Reilly, passed away at the age of
14. In our grief, we showered K.C. with love and basically let him rule
the roost - bad idea. By the time K.C. was a year old not only was he
dog aggressive, he was people aggressive. K.C. is a border collie mix,
his sole purpose in life is to protect his sheep and as far as he's
concerned, we're his sheep! With me, the Mom, his chief sheep - he had
even bitten my husband "protecting" me (all my poor husband wanted was a
hug!).
By this point in
time, my husband was ready to give him to the pound. I knew that would
be a death sentence for K.C. due to his aggression and as far as I'm
concerned when you adopt an animal, they're yours for life. So we began
our search for solutions. More than one local vet, pet store, pet
owner, etc. recommended Tammy and Skiplyn Kennels. Due to her high
demand we were put on a waiting list, but it was more than worth the
wait.
K.C. was voted most
improved in both his Beginner's and Intermediate Class, however, we
realised he needed more as he was still hard to handle. When Tammy
initially suggested E-collar training, we were wary but decided to try
it. One of the first things Tammy did, which helped reassure us, was to
put the collar prongs on our palms so we could feel what the dog felt.
Not at all what I had thought - the most we felt was a small "pick".
Tammy has a policy
of one-on-one training before you can use the E-collar in class. What a
day that was! From a dog that couldn't be let off leash, Tammy had K.C.
heeling off leash in less than an hour. By the end of the afternoon,
K.C. was running through Tammy's dogs (also used in our training)
without giving them a second look, coming on command, heeling and not
just for Tammy, but for my daughter, husband and myself. It was like he
was a different dog. We continue to use the E-collar to take him for
walks, we can let him off leash safely so he's happier and we're
happier. Even though it's an hour's drive (one way) to get to Tammy's
class, we plan to take the E-collar class in the spring (hate winter
driving) with the goal of progressing to Agility classes.
I can't express my
gratitude enough to the training Tammy has given us. She is literally a
life saver - my dog's life, that is. If you have a problem dog (or any
dog), before you give up, take them to Tammy - they'll get a new leash
on life, I know, K.C. did.
