I have known Tammy for a number of years as we have been at various dog related  events together.  I live over 5 hours away from from Tammy so I have never had the chance to attend her classes but can honestly say that she has by phone and/or computer helped me more than other trainers I have had come over to my home for a private lesson.  Tammy’s knowledge of dogs includes both theory as well as real world practical applications.   She has not just learned one theory of training and keeps her blinders on, she willing to learn new theories in order to become an even more effective trainer.  In regards to real world experience, if you have a problem she probably has helped someone through a similar problem in the past, not just read about the problem in some book. The fact that she has SIX dogs of various breeds and a cat  living together in her home speaks about how skill this girl has.  Another difference I found in dealing with Tammy that may sound strange, is that the girl genuinely loves dogs.  Some trainers want only to handle the dogs that are easy fixes or dogs that will make them look good in obedience or train so that can advertise it in an upcoming breeding..  Tammy WANTS  to help all dogs, big, small, reasonably well behaved and those dogs with serious problem..

Keep up the great work Tammy.  If you ever move out of Sudbury let me know because you would be my first choice for a CDX trainer.

MyT, Shepherd-Husky cross, 4 years old.

MyT has taken Obedience classes with Tammy, Agility classes, and a Flyball class.

MyT was my first dog, and, I'll admit it, I made mistakes in establishing her place in our household.  When we came to Tammy, MyT was pretty obedient with my husband, but she treated me like dirt.  Meeting Tammy, and learning her rules helped me immensely.  MyT is now a Therapy dog with me, and she listens to everything I say.  She is welcome everywhere we go because of the skills she has learned with Tammy.  I can't thank her enough.

We have two loving female Shepard mixes. Our oldest Peggy is 7yrs, and Trixi is 4yrs. We just recently adopted them. We had no idea what we were getting into, but the good feeling of giving our dogs a second chance was great!

Our dogs are both friendly and affectionate….with people. On a walk shortly after we adopted them we noticed that perhaps our new pets weren’t too fond of other dogs. We were referred by our Vet to call Tammy. We went home and instantly called the number eager to see if there was anything she could do.

Upon speaking with her we decided to have a private lesson first.  This way she was able to give us direction on how to train Peggy and Trixi before the next available Beginners Class. She came over the same night we called, and spent the time there going over many different things. How to read your dog for stress, how to dominate them (alpha figure), techniques on positive training during walks, the list went on.

We applied what Tammy had taught us for the next month or so. We were already beginning to see major results. Peggy wasn’t barking at every single dog we passed anymore (a little more selective at least) pretty good for a dog who is 7. And Trixi wasn’t chewing or picking items off the counter. We had pets who respected us, and we could understand them and care for them a lot better than when we initially started out.

We enrolled Peggy and Trixi into school for eight weeks. Tammy’s methods for training were amazing and Peggy and Trixi felt happy that they were getting praise for learning. One thing that I’m very happy about was having my dogs in a social setting (with other dogs). This allowed them to gain trust and build better social skills. We learned how to walk our dogs, heeling :slow/fast/normal/about turn. We learned how to correct our dogs in a positive manner.

I keep using the word “positive” but it really was. There is no yelling at your pets, and acting aggressive with them. It is easy for them to learn because they aren’t afraid of you and they understand what they did wrong.

Our dogs are more thankful too since we are able to communicate with them better. Our family is very thankful for having Tammy as our dog trainer.

 Thanks Tammy!

Although I've only taken the beginner obedience course,
my mom says I act more like the little man I should be.
I'm very well behaved on my walks now and (sometimes)
come when I'm called. (Hey, I'm a terrier!)
What I like most about Tammy is that she treats us
with the kindness and respect we deserve. I highly
recommend her method of training with love and patience.

I’m sorry I live so far away from Tammy because, in the few times I’ve needed advice, she’s always been extremely helpful.

Tammy has a lot of knowledge on dogs and dog behaviour. I had a problem with a dog aggression issue with a dog I had hoped to adopt, I couldn’t handle the dog and Tammy stepped right in and offered to keep the dog at her house until something could be done. She went out of her way to help with this dog, spent her own money to help re-home the dog and didn’t ask for anything in return.  I had some concerns over aggression with my own dogs and Tammy gave me some great advice,  We talked on the phone and she checked in with me my by email to see if everything was OK.  She passed on some information on a dog aggression seminar that was coming up. This was something that I would never have known about without  her letting me know.

I attended a training weekend at her place and learned a lot about dog training and behaviour.

She’s also helping me with a nail trimming problem that I’m having.

The thing I’m most appreciative about is the fact that she offers the advice/help without someone having to ask for it and if you do ask for help, she follows up with you. She doesn’t just give you information and then forget about you the way a lot of people would.

Four years ago I adopted an AmStaff (Pit Bull Type) that showed all the signs of being very dog aggressive. When I brought Katie to the first class, she was very wild and out of control when she saw all the other dogs in class. However, Tammy took a tough love approach on my dog and was able to control her well enough for the rest of the class. With all the tools that Tammy gave me and the training Katie received during the next 6 weeks, not only did she win the award for most improved dog, but I could honestly say that my dog is happy around other dogs. As Tammy cautioned me from day one, I could never let Katie just go and play with any dog at any given time, however, she can play under supervision with almost any dog... I don't think this would have happened if Tammy would not have taught me how to handle and care for a dog such as Katie.

 I  have 2 female dogs - a Field Trial Golden Retriever (4 yrs) and Shepherd/Greyhound mix (5yrs)

Because of Tammy's techniques, my 2 dogs are obedient, respectful of other dogs and people.  My Golden was impossible on a leash and Tammy soon corrected this.  I had started Flyball with her but discovered she had a patella problem and had surgery, so I did not continue with the Flyball, but the classes she did attend were fabulous and I knew she enjoyed them.
My Shep/Greyhound is a very skittish dog and not too trusting of unfamiliar things.  I strongly urge everyone to try Tammy's agility classes.  This dog would not even think of going through a tunnel or an A-frame - it freaked her out, but surprisingly, this class totally helped her gain confidence and by the end of the 8 week class I couldn't keep her from these 2 obstacles.

Tammy will teach you how to let your dog know who is the boss - which is every important.  Her techniques are strong, yet done in a gentle way.  She will teach you the hand signals for various commands.  This is beneficial for any dog.  For example: you dog is across the road and a car is coming - the signal for "DOWN" may save your dogs life - especially if your dog is not within hearing range.

If you are interested in competition for your dog or obtaining titles - then Tammy is the person to train you and your dog.

Whenever someone decides to own a dog, I believe it is the owners responsibility to train their dog properly.  In fact, it is a necessity!  By sharing in the training of your dog, the end result is that your pet is happy to please you and you are happy because you have an obedient pet.  Too many people buy pets and then "dump" them because they say the dog is "dirty, stubborn or aggressive"  This can be eliminated by proper training and Tammy is the one to give you the necessary tools to successfull training.

I try to bring my dogs to obedience class at least once a year.  Why - if I have already trained them once you ask?  I find that a refresher class keeps them from getting lazy and they totally love "puppy school" as we call it.  It is also an excellent way to further "bond" with your pet!  You couldn't possibly go wrong attending Tammy's class.  The fee isn't high when you consider the end results.

Tammy welcomes you to her classes with a genuine interest in yourself and your dog regardless if it is a puppy or older dog or whether it is a mixed or purebred.  She provides a safe and comfortable environment to teach us and our dogs about obedience.  If you have a behaviour problem with your pet she is the Dr. Phil who is able to understand  the problem and will teach you how it came about and solutions to fix it.  She has given me the knowledge and confidence to make my dog listen to me and make me a proud owner.  Her hands on technique is something that you cannot get from a book.  Tammy's expertise, guidance and sense of humor makes her classes very enjoyable and I have always looked forward to the next class.

Tammy knows dogs better than just about anybody.  She listens to owners about specific training problems and comes up with workable solutions.   I’ve been to Skiplyn for all levels of obedience and some agility with my two Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers and we all love going to school!

Well….Skiplyn Kennels…I can’t say enough great things.

I have only ever had one dog and had no idea at the time I picked him up at the pound what I was supposed to do with him with regards to training.  So he half learned the basic commands that I taught him: sit, down, heel.  Then I met someone that had taken their dogs to Tammy and they mentioned that it was really fun and effective.  Finnigan (7 year old “neighbourhood blend”) was fairly dog aggressive so I figured the exposure to a class full of dogs would be a good for him; so I enrolled him into beginner obedience in January of 2005.

I’ve been hooked ever since and Finnigan has completed beginner and intermediate obedience and beginner agility.  He is currently enrolled in advanced obedience and intermediate agility.  Tammy’s techniques and tips along the way have definitely strengthened the bond between Finnigan and I.  It has also increased my confidence in his behaviour, thus allowing me to bring him almost anywhere.  Once you go through Tammy’s classes you realize how easy it is and how much more you enjoy your dog’s company when they listen.  Not only that… you meet people that are as crazy about dogs as you are.

Tammy is a great trainer who definitely knows what she is doing.  Her experience in training, as well as the titles that her dogs hold definitely speaks to that.  Give it a try…it’s worth it regardless of breed or age.

Thanks Tammy

Colonel 2 year old miniature schnauzer

Colonel and I enrolled in obedience training with Tammy with the goal of progressing to agility training. I had seen agility on TV and it looked like fun.
I had no idea that we would learn so much in obedience. Colonel was a fearful dog and would lunge at other dogs when they walked by. We learned a lot in beginner obedience such as stand and wait. Tammy also taught us how to take care of our dogs such as how to brush their teeth and trim their nails. Our first night in intermediate obedience was very frustrating. Colonel had to lie in a down stay while the other dogs walked around the outside of the room. He rolled around on his back and barked at the other dogs. I thought we might get kicked out. However, with patience and practice he quickly got used to the presence of other active dogs. By the end of the session he would lie quietly while the other dogs walked around. I think that I learned the most. I learned to respect that all dogs are different and need to be handled in different ways. Obedience training is a great way to get a happy dog that is more polite in public.
We did progress to agility and we both love it! I highly recommend it as a great way to have fun with your dog.

I first met Tammy nearly 10 years ago when she was teaching obedience classes with another lady.  We had 2 rottweilers at the time, and understood the importance of obedience training... both for the dog and the handler.  The class was so productive that we continued on another level.  Being such a labeled breed, family, friends and passerby's would often comment at the warmth and obedience of our two gentle giants.  The classes definitely payed off!
After the passing of our two boys, we found ourselves longing for the companionship only a dog can give.  This time, however, we opened our home to two Havanese.  Quite a change in breed, by any standard, we knew that our training tactics would need to be modified for these brilliant, little clowns!  Who else to call?... Tammy!  She's had so much experience with such a variety of breeds and temperaments, I wouldn't trust anyone else!  Once again, her classes have paid off!  Marco (the fawn colored) was awarded Champion in just three shows, and I'm quite certain his obedience played a big part in having such a calm and confident quality. And, although Milo (the little black one) continues to talk (not to be mistaken with bark!) a lot, I think it's more because he has something to say rather than the fear and intimidation he once felt. The improvement you'll see is evident with each passing class, and the respect and friendship you'll develop is priceless!  Tammy knows how to tackle any breed, any problem, and she continues to educate herself with the best of interest for you and your buddy.
I have, and will continue, to encourage anyone with a dog (or two!) of any age,  to enroll in her informative and productive obedience classes!
Congratulations Tammy on all of your success!
Sincerely,
April, Marco & Milo
