Beginner Obedience Class

$400 Tax Included

In the Beginner Class we will help you teach your pet proper socialization, how to accept being physically handled, how to sit, stand, down, stay and to come when called, and to walk nicely beside you without pulling and sit when you stop walking. These basic obedience help you concur other unwanted behaviours like jumping, chewing, digging or barking. All dogs of any breed, size, and age (as young as 8 weeks) are welcome. No dog is "too old" and no breed is "un-trainable". I have several years of experience in successfully training all breed types and virtually every temperament of dog.

Beginner Schedule for May 2024 Monday 5:30 - 6:30 PM Monday 6:45 PM - 7:45 PM Tuesday 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM Tuesday 6:45 PM - 7:45 PM Thursday 5:30 - 6:30 PM

Intermediate Obedience Class

$350 Tax Included

In the intermediate level class, we continue to work on all skills introduced in the beginner level, adding progressively challenging distractions that you and your dog will encounter in real life. Hand signals are taught in addition to verbal commands strengthening your dog's understanding of each concept, and we introduce 'finishes', where your dog smartly returns to heel from sitting in front. This class is a prerequisite for Skiplyn Kennel's advanced obedience class and agility classes.

Intermediate Schedule for May 2024 Tuesday 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM Thursday 6:45 PM - 7:45 PM

Advanced Obedience Class

$300 Tax Included

In the advanced level class, we continue to challenge your dog with increasingly difficult distractions. We use distractions to simulate obstacles you may encounter in everyday life on your walks, particularly other dogs and people. Working through these challenges strengthens your bond with your dog and helps him to be reliable in these scenarios. Your dog will amaze you in what he is able to accomplish at this level. Stays are done off leash at extended distance and duration and are tested through realistic distractions. For those interested, training techniques that prepare the dog and handler team for obedience competition are introduced.

Advanced Schedule for May 2024 Monday 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Advanced Part Two *only if there is interest* Thursday 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Training your dog is an on-going process throughout your dog's life. Classes provide a structured environment to learn the skills and methods, but also provide the necessary distractions to reinforce your dog's obedience and skills.  Outside of class, it is easy to fall into old habits. Many owners find that their dogs benefit from taking a class as refresher periodically.

Group Class FAQ

Puppies can start as early as 8 weeks old as long as they have had their first set of shots including the kennel cough vaccine. There is no such thing as “too old” or “too young” to start.

What age is best to start Group Classes?

We allow two handlers to attend per dog, we recommend that you bring another person involved in the dogs life - the main handler should remain the same for the full 8 weeks. No children under 16 are permitted to handle dogs in class but are encouraged to work with the dog at home!

Who should attend the Group Class?

Eventually yes! We do require dogs who have reactivity or aggression to be seen for a private lesson first so the dog isn’t being disruptive in the class. Group Classes are for teaching new behaviours not stopping bad ones, a private lesson with the trainer will better suit those needs and prepare you for success in a group setting.

My dog gets over excited when they see other dogs, can I still do class?

Dogs must be up to date on their DA2P, Rabies & Kennel Cough to attend classes. Puppies must be up to date according to their age. (8 weeks old 1st set of shots, 12 weeks old 2nd set of shots, 4 months old 3rd and final puppy shots)

What vaccines does my dog require to participate in Group Classes?

If you have to miss a week of class we have video summaries we can send you so you can complete the training and home work at home. This way you don’t fall behind. Videos are only available for Beginner Obedience.

What happens if I have to miss a class?

Our Group Classes are 8 weeks long, held once per week for 1 hour. Our classes DO run on Holiday Mondays so this doesn’t delay the Monday Class schedule.

How long do the Group Classes run?

Yes, everyone started in Beginner! Our Beginner Level is so much more than just knowing sit and down, it’s about your dog working with you and listening even in a distracting environment with other dogs and people. Our Beginner Level is also exclusive to our training facility, so a Beginner Level completed elsewhere does not equal our Beginner Level.

My dog already knows Basic Obedience, do I have to start in Beginner?
